Nic Jonk was a Dutch visual artist, best known for his voluptuous images of mythological representations, women and animals. He was also active as a graphic artist, painter and jewelery designer. Nic Jonk came from a poor farming family and entered the advertising business at the age of 17. He attended an evening course at the applied arts school in Amsterdam. there he had Wessel Couzijn as a teacher, who encouraged him to continue. He was present at the first Sonsbeek exhibition. As a result, he decided to focus on sculpture. In 1953 he went to the Rijkscademie van Beeldende Kunsten after all. However, three years later, disappointed in the training, he dropped out and started his own business. In 1965 he settled with his family in Grootschermer where he set up a sculpture park. Works from his extensive oeuvre can be admired in approximately 200 public places in the Netherlands.
