Description:
The chalk cliffs of Etretat have had an irresistible allure for tourists and artists for centuries. Claude Monet made them even more famous than they already were through his series of paintings depicting these extraordinary cliffs. His work attracted a wave of tourists, all eager to paint the same rocks and briefly experience the fame of the great French master.
Roeland van der Kley: My interpretation of these cliffs is now on display at Art Gallery Pot. I chose to represent these rock formations in a more narrative atmosphere because I always aim to convey a story with my artworks. For me, it's about more than just the visual aspect. In this case, I sought a combination of feminine beauty, the almost magical attraction of the chalk cliffs, and a touch of fairy-tale charm.
As the gallery owner at ART GALLERY Pot, I'd like to share a bit more about the location itself. On-site, there are two arched projections in the chalk cliffs, one delicate and one robust. The lady in the painting stands on the sturdy projection, gazing out over the coastline and the delicate arch, as you can see in the photo on the left. This perspective can only be experienced from the sea or if you were a bird. Both projections have been frequently captured by painters, sketch artists, and photographers over the years, but the lady in the painting sees something that others might have overlooked.
We cordially invite you to come and admire this exceptional creation in our gallery and experience the enchanting world of the chalk cliffs of Etretat through the eyes of the artist.
