Bruno Mertens

Bruno Mertens (1968°) studied ceramics and graphic art at the academie of fine arts in Ghent. Originating from his back ground in the graphic arts Bruno started working with the “drypoint” technique. Multiple sharpened needles are used to scratch on a wooden surface that has been prepared with an acrylic layer. Colour pigments are being rubbed into the grooves. Intuitively scratching  he finds his way through the acrylic and the wood, lines arise and patterns emerge. Each wooden plate has his own unique identity. Current and collision. order and chaos. Those are the ingredients that determine the form. Your job as beholder is to give  meaning to the abstraction.
